Part One: The Happiest Place on Earth
After all of the love I received, and the birthday celebrations of March, I still had something to look forward to in April! Disneyland and Modest Mouse. Simply having something to look forward to is the greatest feeling to me. Time goes by so fast and the end of a perfect trip is heartbreaking, so planning and looking forward to the next is what keeps me going. Finally the day came quickly, as it always does, and we were off! I believe road tripping is the better way to go. Not because I am afraid of planes, but because I get to bring all the snacks I want and relax in the comfort of my own Honda Civic. And sing and dance with the boy I love, fingers in the shape of a heart, because what better way is there to spend time on a long drive?
Day One
As everyone knows, Disneyland truly is one of the happiest places on earth. If you're hating your life at Disneyland then you probably suck as a person everywhere else you go. My friend made a comment once that I thought was hilarious. "Disneyland is not the happiest place on earth when everyone on earth is there." This is true. Our first day was not the greatest, considering all the best rides were closed all day and everyone on earth was there. If Matterhorn and Space Mountain are closed, I am a very sad girl. So after taking a few typical Disneyland photos, because everyone needs those, we went on the safari ride, got a pickle (which made me happy), and moseyed over to California Adventure.
Here, we found our oasis. Carthay Lounge. Dead, cold, and the best drinks with the best presentations. I got the Pimm's Punch (seriously delicious) and he got a Manhattan with the coolest little ball of ice I had ever seen in a drink. Oh, and the fruit they give you with it could just be the very best part of it all.
Rides followed. I beat him in Toy Story Mania (woo hoo!) and we had the best time.
Back to the happiest place for ice cream, because ice cream is necessary everyday you are at Disneyland. Cookie Dough and Mint Chocolate Chip are the absolute best duo.
Random cute sightings that make me happy; baby ducks (how I wish he could have taken one for me. I would have loved it forever) and leaves in the shape of a heart.
Tortilla Jo's for dinner. Ohh my. I love this place. Mainly for their guacamole being the best in all the land. We definitely called for the recipe days later after reminiscing over it...and we definitely have made it multiple times since.
Day Two
Just as amazing as the first. I have realized next time I want to get a three day park hopper because two days is just not enough! I finally got my mickey waffle I had been wanting for like 4 years at Carnation Cafe. It was lovely. Disney train ride and finally, my all time favorite, Matterhorn! (I must admit I am a little sad they changed the seating arrangements to riding solo!)
Back to California, where we ended up at Ariel's grotto for some drinks and wonderful conversation before getting our souvenirs, which mainly consisted of kitchen stuff (the best stuff!). Disneyland was a blast and I cannot wait to go again. Three days next time! Maybe for Christmas :)
Part Two: Madonna Inn and Modest Mouse
Another (shorter!) road trip to Slo for our stay at Madonna Inn. I have always wanted to stay in this unique little Inn and he found one of our favorite bands playing AT the Madonna Inn. Fate? Best find ever? Yes. I am a lucky girl. A quick stop at the beach was only fitting before making our way to the coolest room.
And here it is. I love that every room is different, it's hard to pick one, but babes did such a good job. We even had a rock wall shower. And those chairs? I have searched high and low for similar ones and have failed miserably. Maybe one day I will find my cool Madonna Inn chairs.
The pool. There are no words. Above everything else with a little bar, where he insisted he get me a margarita? It was beautiful. Doesn't he look like a little Hugh Hefner in this picture? It makes me laugh and I love it. Cutie.
Night came and we finally got to see Modest Mouse! I wasn't sure they were still even doing concerts but boy am I glad they are! It was so much fun, they did an awesome job! (Obviously)
Part Three: Avila Beach
So this is where we were supposed to go home. Pffft. No. I hate the end of trips and if we can help it we will stay longer. He insisted we did and he does not have to pull my arm. So we stayed and went over to Avila Beach where we got a room at the Inn. Such a cute little town. We made a short walk over to Avila Grocery and Deli where his friend worked. You may never think to have lunch here because it isn't a restaurant but wow. I am so glad we knew about it! I mean, look at this. Cheap, delicious, and right along the beach.
Our room was great. Fireplaces always make a room to me, but even better than that was the jet tub with a view of the ocean. Spoiled. I am spoiled.
EVEN BETTER YET, this Inn has a rooftop lounge with hammocks and couches and tvs. Blew us away. It was truly beautiful and a perfect, relaxing way to end a more up beat, hectic trip.
That little speck down there is my boyfriend who was brave enough to run across the street and straight into the ocean while I stayed on my cozy hammock and watched.
Dinner on the water at the Olde Port Inn was finally the end. Sadly. As I said in the beginning, the end of trips to me are always heartbreaking on one hand. On the other, I had such a beautiful time with a beautiful person and that makes me beyond happy to just be alive, have these experiences, and see the places I get to see.
