So I think everyone agrees that sometimes birthdays can just be massive disappointments and I have had a few of those in my even younger years. Since my little family of 3 has made the new tradition to picnic at V. Sattui in Napa I no longer have to worry. It has given me great memories for the past two years and allows me to look forward to the next.
Something as simple as getting a sandwich and a bottle of wine, and sitting outside in a beautiful area with those who love you most, can make a day spectacular.
Of course we had to make a trip to Bouchon and it was only fitting to buy the birthday cake macaroon. We all had a blast and the love I have for those two is indescribable.
The second part of my birthday celebration began when my babes came over that night and handed me the most wonderful manila envelope I had ever received. Enclosed was a Disneyland ticket and a short story all about us. As much as I love a good card, nothing compares to having a story written about you from his point of view. I was blown away and will continue to randomly read that for years to come. I am hoping for a part two. and three and four...
He then planned an extravagant picnic to Hog Island which continued to blow me away. Everything was thoroughly thought out and perfectly delicious. Red wine, bread, oil and balsamic, grapes, cheese, tomato, pepperoni, BBQ oysters...If you haven't been to Hog Island, and you haven't tried oysters, you should go. I honestly can't wait to go back.
We also got to shuck our own little oysters, which was a fun experience! (He is so cute.)
I was proud of the little one that I did :D
We ended this trip with a stop at the beach. Warning: Do not try to stand on slimy ocean logs. Or this might happen to you...
It was a fantastic day with the most fantastic company. I am a lucky girl for having such an opposite of disappointing birthday and the luckiest girl for having these people love me so much.
